Hi all
I have an issue I hope someone on here may kindly throw some light on for me.
My 1993 defender 90 200tdi decided to strip a cam belt last week resulting in 8 bent pushrods, one snapped rocker arm, one damaged tappet slide and 2 slightly bent inlet valves.
(And there was I thinking the engine had a timing chain for the past 80k miles until a few weeks ago and having gathered various tool and pullers together planned to replace the belt next week!)
Anyways....I cleaned the head up today and found strange pitting where the head gasket fits around the bores and staining that leads into the 2 middle bores from the waterway stop. It looks almost as if there has been some reaction to the gasket.
Question.........
What's likely to cause pitting around the bores in this manner?
This head was skimmed in 2002 (10 thou I think) approx 60k mile ago.
Here's what I found behind the timing case!
Before....
The stripped belt
After a clean up and almost ready for new seals etc........
I am going to have the fuel injector pump checked out to ensure it's working OK (dont want to replace everything and have it happen again IF the pump was at fault.
Many thanks in advance
