Ref Vitara

Thought I had a stone trapped in a tyre, tap, tap, tap all the time. After a
week trying to find it I discovered that every time the front wheel went
round the disc just snagged one of the pads and it moved forward a couple of
mill, then it sprang back to its original position.

So is this the first sign of the calliper seizing ? And what is the best
remedy?

What do you think ?

Took my Vitara to the people who fitted discs and pads in April.

They say it's the pads.

So having new pads on Thursday. FOC



Interestingly

I had them check the steering.

Can't get the steering wheel straight.

Three different garages / tyre cos. Have tried to track the front end, but
can not get the steering wheel straight.

Apparently, because I have a steering box and not a rack, any wear can make
it difficult to track and get the steering wheel straight.

So I am doomed.

I have to suffer driving on a flat straight surface with my steering wheel
permanently at an angle of say 25 degrees or spend a fortune on having all
the linkages replaced. Doooooooooooooo

The way they correct the steering wheel is to position it in the straight
ahead position then correct the tracking to get the wheels pointed straight
ahead too. They should have a clamp that is used to push the brake pedal
down that attaches to the bottom of the steering wheel, they can use this to
hold the steering wheel in place whilst they correct the wheels to match it.

Might be worth checking for any signs of accident damage if your having
problems getting the steering right.
