my 300tdi auto classic has been underperforming for a few weeks now and i came to the conclusion the boost hoses were split somewhere. i have replaced the hoses with silicone this evening with no improvement.
while i was at it i was going to replace the drum handbrake with an x eng disc type.
when i started to remove the rear prop i realised that the drum is very difficult to turn. its not the handbrake as the drum moves a few degrees then stops. when i use a prybar to turn the prop its very difficult nigh on impossible to turn. the gearbox and transfer were in neutral.
does this point to a siezed coupling?

possibly ,leave in neutral and try with just one front wheel up with bar and socket on wheel
 
It's been a few years since I owned a RRC with the BW set-up but my recollection is :
Chock rear wheel(s) - apply handbrake firmly - transfer box in neutral - jack one front wheel clear of the ground & you should be able to fully rotate that wheel BUT with considerable effort.
 
well i fitted a new coupling today. bit of a fright as it from a p38 and i thought it was wrong, untill i realised the housings had to be changed. the car drives alot better but it is still down on power. found the exhaust flexy is very sooty. looks like it has a leak and suspicion is now turning to a blocked exhaust. first i will check the fuel lines as ive had these block up before.
