Hi all

I have got a bit of corrosion on the bulkhead nearside, I have added some pics.

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to body work etc so was hoping the landyzone faithful could advise on how I should tackle it, is it time for a repair panel?

There are no holes present as yet just a bit of bubbling etc

If you want rid then it'd need to be ground back till there isn't anymore rust. That'll probably mean enlarging the area a fair bit.

Although you say there is no hole - this area rusts from the inside out meaning that the area is probably shot. Jab it with a screwdriver and you'll soon discover how severe the rot is!

Not a big job but its most likely to need welding in new metal for a long term fix.

You could just grind, chemically rust kill, fill over and paint. Would last a while but not a good fix.

Removing the top hinge screw once a year and squirting oil in has kept my 22 year old landys bulkhead solid.

Thanks guys, I'm soon to be installing a 200tdi which I'm collecting on Sunday so maybe while the engine is out I might just install a new complete bulkhead, it's a good opportunity I guess unless you feel a simple repair would do?

Unless there's more rust elswhere a new bulkhead seems a little overkill for that small patch, I've seen worse than that repaired.
Done properly a repair panel would be invisible

Changing a bulkhead is a big job not only removing and replacing it but striping all the bits off old one and refitting on the new one and then more time to get it set up on the landy,all in all a lot of hours

Its a simple repair, an hour's work. Butt welded properly you would never know its done
