hi everyone, could anyone here offer some advice on the above, i went out yesterday, and i was only a couple of mile down the road, when the break light came on (on the dash) and the breaks went really spongy.

i belive i may have split a break line, but could anyone give me any pointers as to what it might be,

Check ur brake fluid level, also check all ur brakes and lines fer signs of leakage. Also check the pipe from the servo to the injun for splits.

Basically what has PROBABLY happened is there has been an UNBALANCE in the pressure of the two halves of the braking system hydraulics.

There's a little doo-day switch thing that has hydraulic pressure on each side of a wee piston. One half of the hydraulics shoves one end of the piston, but if all is well the other half shoves it the other way by equal pressure. If one side leaks or splits a pipe or blows a seal, the pressure on that side drops, so when you hit the STOP pedal the wee pistom moves, and when it does it lets a switch close and your wee warning light comes on.

Worth noting this light comes on only AFTER (a) the system has failed and (b) you hit the STOP pedal. It may be WAY too late by then.

Sometimes re-setting the switch can be tricky but there are ways ....

hi guys im sorry if my post was a bit lazy, my head hasnt been screwed on (its been a bad couple of days) thank you both for your ideas, ive topped up the brake fluid, and the light went out, but im just waiting to see if the fluid is leaking ill keep you all posted.

Had the same, was the o/s/f calliper seals. easy to replace.

Take care now, and never be afraid to ask.
If it's a serious question you won't get a hard time (often).

Any sudden loss of fluid should be investigated of course, but if your fluid reservoir has a lid on it with with two skinny wires, the light may have come on because the fluid was low.

The fluid goes down as the brake pads wear out ..... worth remembering too.

But do a very careful visual for leaks anyway.
