hi guys can any one help went out in the p38 diesel n.reg the other day brakes worked fine went to go out again BUT no brakes nothing on the peddle
when press peddle goes right down if pump it a few times goes hard but soon as i take foot off then press again its back to the floor cant see any leaks round wheels or resoirvor fluid is on full mark as well pls help only ad car for 6 months and not to familler with it yet thanks :) ps no warning on dash board

When it does start to grab does the car pull to one side?
 
Accumulator or pressure pump are most likely unless you have a pool of brake fluid underneath indicating a rusted out pipe.

Yup you get the bearing grease all over the disc and pads, doesn't actually go all the way to the floor just feels like it and requires pumping ;)

Strange, I can understand it not stopping or pulling to one side but can't see why it would affect the peddle travel as the pad clearances would be the same:confused:

Yeah I know it foxed me at first when mine went. :rolleyes:

your suggestion is more likely though but thought it worth throwing into the mix ;)
 
Had same thing on mine that was accumulator , they ain't cheap and roversnet show you how to change it
 
were is the accumilator and presure pump is it were the pipe comes from bottom of the resoirvoir into the black ball type thingy siting on a cylinder with senser i think on it with a wire on :):confused:

The ball type thingy (about the size of a grapefruit) is the accumulator and it's sat on top of the brake pump. The pump is electrical and provides pressure that the accumulator holds until needed - when you press the brake pedal.

Lift your bonnet and start your engine. You should be able to hear/feel the pump running. If not, then that's your problem. If the pump runs but doesn't stop then you've got accumulator problems.

thanks the help and advise found wot i'm looking for but how do i depresureise the acumilater does it just unscrew if so cant you do it like a shook up bottle of pop ie: a bit at a time

With key out of ignition. Press brake upto 30 times to be sure system is depressurised. Unscrew accumulator screw on new one. Make sure the fluid level is sufficient. Switch on ignition wait for pump to stop, check pedal.
 
thanks 4 that wammers if the pumps ok do i have to start the engine to repressureise or does it do it of battery plus if pump is shot are they easy to change will it av to go on diagnostic

No diagnostics required. Pump should start when ignition is switched on. Reasonably easy to change IF you know what your doing. If not get someone who does to do it for you. If you need to bleed the system it is not straight forwards. The P38 is not bled in the normal manner. You would have to follow the instructions in RAVE to the letter.
