those cheap flaring tools are a COMPLETE waste of money
Get what you pay for is it ?.
Del,
the plastic box they come in it quite well made, that's about it
bet the OP still goes out and buys one![]()
yer most likely,
i looked at a SYKES copyat the 4x4 show this year, wer not the quality tool i was expecting, just a cheap replica, made of monkey metal and creme cheese
still £50 tho
so ......yer sorted me a set out yet![]()
i use a cheap machine mart one and it does every thing i want it to do we have a good quality one at work but find taking every thing to the vice a pain in the bum if you say you need to take a couple of inches off a pipe
i use the machine mart one too, cant see the point of spending silly money on fancy names when that one just the job perfectly well![]()
those cheap one's can produce a reasonable flare, maybe 1 out of 10 will be FULLY properly formed - the others might seal but you'll have to do the fitting up barsteward tight, others will either leak after a very short while, or will leak however tight you do the fitting up
use a proper tool and it'll produce properly formed flares EVERY TIME that only need to be nipped tight to get a seal - i wonder how many cylinders have been wrecked from having the fitting sheared in half due to the previous owner having to swing off their spanners to get it tight enough to seal
bet the OP still goes out and buys one![]()
Yes the pipe is 3/16th. I've got a sealey flaring tool that was about 20 quid. I've used it loads and it's been fine.
OK Sean, without spending silly money - wots the concensus on a good tool?
