Eyup YD, how yer doin ?,
All I know mate is that British Waterways issue summat called a boat safety certificate before you can have a river licence. I think its like an mot. I only know this as my father in laws passion was his narrow boat when he was alive.

I'm not bad mate thanks, had a quiet week. I aint been on the forum much cos I've had to run round for my mum quite a bit. It all depends on the size of the boat, whether it's in the water permanantly where are you mooring it, where are you sailing it different rivers and canals have different licence fees and licensing bodies, it's free if you sail in coastal waters.
We were thinking of buying a canal boat a few years ago but having done the maths decided it was far cheaper to hire one as and when we wanted. and you had a pick of the whole canal system, as aposed to the bit you could manage in the time allowed from where you are based.
