can anyone help i have tried everything
the interior lights on my 99 gs will only work manually the little thing around the ignition still works though and does all the things the lights used to.have tried every lock and alarm sends an error if any of them are left slighty open have changed the interior lights so they are all new switches have checked the earth in each switch ,anyone have any other ideas thankyou ott
 
The interior lights on my DiscoII are controlled by the body computer. IF they are left on i.e. the door being open for any length of time, they automatically go out until next time you switch on the engine (some sort of battery protection circuit). You can still use the switches to switch them on and off.

That said, your car's body computer could be stuck in the 'battery protection state'

it's a long shot... but you could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if it resets the computer? (have your radio code on hand though!)
 
Sorry off the point slightly but I replaced my battery last week and needed no radio code to reset it, everything worked fine is this normal? (TD5 ES Auto 2001)

Mine doesn't need the code either (Alpine Head Unit), it might be like my VW Golf, it only needs the code entered if you remove the unit.

Did you leave it disconnected for an hour or 2, I don't know if it will make any difference but it might be like most airbag systems that need a while to discharge.
 
no will try tommorrow only left it for tem minutes thanks for the tip by the way i was very impressed with your sunroof report
 
Ah well, worth a try I suppose!

I wonder if one of the micro switches in the doors is faulty giving a reading the the body control unit that the lights are always on, although you would think the battery disconnection would cancel that out, either that or a faulty body control unit. Possibly not easy to determine without electronic diagnostics.
 
Had this on an Audi!

It was a little micro-switch stuck in the door lock mechanism that was full of dried grease not telling the ECU that the door was open.

Try blasting WD40 into the lock (not the key hole)
