So im gonna bitt he bullet and do a service this weekend. Never donea full one on a car, and never ever on a landie. so..........

Anythign tricky about a service on a 200TDi disco?

sump plug can be a bastard to remove, best tip is to get the engine hot then drive her onto a set of ramps, then undo the plug whilst still hot, be careful of the hot oil on yer arm though. by putting it on ramps all the **** will flood out too as the plug is at the rear of the sump

Getting the engine hot aint a problem for me at the moment Righteo. Saturday is gonna be fun fun fun.

I dont know when the oil was last changed but its minging, black black with the odd bit of carbon in.

I hope the engine will sing after this.

i would be tempted to flush the engine as well

Tdi 200 service wish life was still that easy for me. did my td4 and it was a nightmare compared with the disco...have fun feller...

God how hard is that?!? .... erm its not. How easy. I was surprised actually, especially since ive never done a service before.

Next thing on the list, is welding the chassis, now that will be a challenge since ive never welded before!

So i put in the 6 litres of oil that it reckoned it needed in the book, been out a good 4 hours later and the dipstick wasnt showing oil. There is oil on the floor, but theres no apparent leaks, it seems to be coming from the outside of the diff from when i took the oil filter off.

Its now had another litre or so of oil - is this normal? Or am i leaking somewhere and cant work it out?

Well ill keep an eye on it. Why cant they just print in the book the total oil system contents - it'd be so much easier!

200Tdi sump capacity is 6.9 litres (including oil filter), according to the haynes manual. Sounds about right, I did mine a few months ago.
