Hello all
I am a bit stuck at the moment. My 1997 4.6 hse failed its MOT last October and has been sitting on my driveway since. It failed on a couple of steering ball joints and it overheated in the mot bay so the test couldn't be completed. Was planning to get stuck into it in the spring.

Problem is that in my front garden is a massive tree that needs to be cut down and to do this the rangie needs to be moved. I reconnected the battery and went to start it and got "Key Code Lockout" displayed on the dash.

I did not get the key code when I purchased the car, sadly I was a complete range rover novice so had no idea of the codes importance! I also only have one working key! Tried to tow the car off the drive but its up hill and my other car is only a humble astra!

What do I do now - any suggestions would be most welcome! Ideally I would like to end up with two keys that work but just being able to get it running would be a start - help!

Recharge the battery
and then get in touch with a Land Rover dealership, they will probably ask for your VIN # and reg its all recorded, so they should be able to help you out

Also stating your location, just might get an offer of help or a tow from a proper tow vehicle owner, if someone lives local to you.....;)

Wait for the tree to fall down onto the Rangy and then get the Butler to make a claim on the household insurance..

Ok I went to my local LR dealer with the log book and proof of ID. They looked my rangie up on their computer and it said "No Security Information Found" all the other information about the car was there but not the code!

Now what?

Whereabouts are you??

Don't say in front of the computer/laptop either...!!!:D

There maybe some local to you who can pull the Rangie for you, or even someone with a Faultmate Extreme, nanocom, autologic/testbook et al who can read the EKA code for you....

I am in MK46 - near Newport Pagnel

If you were closer I'd come tow it for you, but it's over an hour each way and I'm not up that way any time soon!

Can you not just cut the tree down so it falls in the opposite direction? As someone said, a good tree surgeon should be able to do it without harming the Rangie - but hard to say for sure without seeing the exact situation!

Maybe contact the previous owner to see if they can help with the code. Definitely nothing in the handbook? They get written anywhere - on a business card, inside front or back cover, sometimes even on the page about starting the vehicle! My radio code is written on the page about radio codes, for instance. :)

Some could be fooled with key in ignition on and battery reconnected-make sure the window is down so you don't get locked out.
Rangerovers.net may have more info.

Have you thought of talking to the factory directly asking how this could be? They might have other info on a computer system not available to the dealer.

You might even find that your car had an unusual or interesting start to 'life'.

Spoke to a very helpful guy at Landrover who managed to provide me with the code so car now running again.
On to the next problem now!
