2.5 BMW manual 1997. 185k
Finally got down to the bottom of my rebuild. Now looking at changing the big end shells. The existing ones look surprising good with next to no wear on the surfaces or on the journals. However this far in.. so new ones anyway. Question. Looking at the choices. I have taken the measurements and can refit standards again, but can someone explain what red and blue bearings are all about. I get the "sputter" point but not sure what the colours are for.

Red colour code is fitted to conrod. Blue colour code is fitted to cap.
