Evening, now then ive got a 2000 on a V freelander commercial and today there was a big bang at the rear and its dumped its oil along with shards of metal, im assuming the rear diff has exploded ? do you know if you can disconect the rear and run on front wheel only as i need it for work on monday and wont be able to get a diff and change it before then, it can be driven on tickover but makes a crunch and a bang

Yours Hopefully

Stew :)

can't see why not, but you'd have to get all the bits of crap out of the rear diff as those cogs will still be turning when the back wheels go round, even if they're not driven.

You will def need to check for and remove any metal nasties from inside the rear diff. Even with the prop off the diff gears that are left are still turning by the rear wheels, so it may well be that you will cause more damage to it by driving it, not to mention a possible lock up by a bit of metal jamming in the works.
