I know that the manual gives you the type of oil to use, but, what is the best brand of oil, the stuff they sell in the dealership or other brands. This is my first landy and i want to make sure i get it right for my first service. The next thing is what oil changes do i need to do on the 6000mile service, engine yes, but how about diff, trans , brake, etc.
I have been through my workshop manual, tells you how to do it, but not when and how often.
Mileage at present is 69000 odd. Help appreciated on this:confused:
 
Ok, you need a good engine oil with a spec of CG minimum (although the book says CD which is low by today's standards). Or better, a CH, or if you are feeling rich, a CI spec. A good example is Shell Rimula Super X. For the transfer box, front and rear diffs and swivels any old EP90 GL5 will do. The main gearbox is more difficult as you should use Texaco MTF94 (not ATF as in the book) but it is hard to find. We here use Castrol VMX which is a semi-synthetic 80w manual gear box oil. I also hear good stuff about synthetic Castrol Syntrans - it all depends on what is available locally. Whatever you do, DO NOT put EP90 in the main box as it is too thick and will destroy the oil pump. Also the main gearbox oil must be a GL4, not a GL5 as the EP additives corrode the bronze bits.

Automotive Lubricants - Engine Oils - Multipurpose Greases - Aerosols - Morris Lubricants - UK

Service schedules change depending on mileage hopefully this covers most of the basic ones bud

1,engine oil and filter replace every 6000miles / 6 months
2,swivel pin housing oil check and top up every 6000miles / 6 months, replace every 24000 miles / 24 months, VIN LD104957 only
3,diff and transfer box oil replace every 24000 miles / 24 months
4,brake fluid replace every 24000miles / 24 months
5,air filter replace 12000miles / 12 months
6,fuel filter replace 12000miles / 12 months
7,coolant replace every 24000miles / 24 months
8,steering box check and top up every 6000miles / 6 months
9, valve clearances check and adjust every 24000 miles / 24 months
