i want to convert my duel mass to a solid fly wheel but been told not to do it any body out there got any advice out there ?

people do it ,but personall i wouldnt ,dual mass is used as a damper for the transmission and not clutch plate as earlier models ,as modern diesels are high torque ,flywheel offers more damping than clutch plate could

not you wouldnt notice when driving ,transmission may sound harsh at tick over ,and gear changes less smooth ,

I agree with James.
DMFs are fitted for a reason and do serve a purpose. Alot of people just see them as an unnecessary expense, but they prolong the life of gearboxes, especially on engines with heavy crankshaft pulses like 4 and 5 cylinder engines.
Manufacturers spend millions on design to optimise performance and longevity of major components, yet Billy Bloggs with his set of Draper spanners and a Haynes manual thinks he's figured something new out, always the way.

But DMF's are proving unreliable that's why SMF conversion kits are available. I've replaced several including a couple of Tranny vans that do high mileages, and to date the SMF conversion is out lasting the original set up by a hell of a long way, no gear box problems either.

i recently fitted one to a customers discovery td5, approx 1 month later he was back in and wanted a dual mass back in as he couldnt do with the rattle on idle.
also a local gearbox specialist said a solid mass will take a lot of life out of the bearings compared to a dual mass.
this is why i still have a dual mass on mine.

you can get dmf from £250 upwards ,they do protect transmission,and dont fail that often if changed at same time as clutch
