i want to convert my duel mass to a solid fly wheel but been told not to do it any body out there got any advice out there ?
I agree with James.
DMFs are fitted for a reason and do serve a purpose. Alot of people just see them as an unnecessary expense, but they prolong the life of gearboxes, especially on engines with heavy crankshaft pulses like 4 and 5 cylinder engines.
Manufacturers spend millions on design to optimise performance and longevity of major components, yet Billy Bloggs with his set of Draper spanners and a Haynes manual thinks he's figured something new out, always the way.![]()
they are on some vehicles but dont seem such an issue with lrsBut DMF's are proving unreliable that's why SMF conversion kits are available. I've replaced several including a couple of Tranny vans that do high mileages, and to date the SMF conversion is out lasting the original set up by a hell of a long way, no gear box problems either.
