So I had the front discs and pads changed a few months ago. It was an attempt to get rid of really bad wobble/vibration when braking as they were obviously warped.

I had suspected the bearings were shot too but it only became blatantly obvious after changing the discs as the drone and gritty feel started getting worse.

So, New bearings purchased and its going in to an LR specialist tomorrow morning to have them replaced. I'm thinking, however, that the 'new' discs being warped again is probably due to the knackered bearings. Would this be likely? I was going to have them replace the discs again as I don't want the new bearings being affected by warped discs. I could ask if they have a dial in gauge to check which would confirm but if not, replacement would be wise, right? I mean, it wouldn't be the bearings causing the wobble themselves would it?

Even though taper roller bearings are "knackered" they will usually run true, can be noisy and loose, but unless the inner race is spinning on the stub they will run true under load in my experience, the discs could run out of true and possibly create a pulsation if driving over rough ground with bearings loose, but heavier braking will tend to centre the disc, I'd think. Good plan to have the discs checked for true with DTI once the new bearings are fitted and adjusted.

That's what I'd have thought and I've used some really heavy breaking to get them back but it's not to be. It was quite unnerving to be honest and the vibration and movement through the car when breaking (on the motorway or in town etc) was making the car very uncomfortable.

So, just had a call. He said he can't get the old bearings out even with a 30 ton press. Apparently it's just denting the steel.

So, new hubs required it would seem. Problem is, I need the car on Friday for a holiday up norf and he said his supplier cant get them to him until Friday.

What does one do? :/

New hubs, discs and pads were fitted on Thursday.

Just back from a 820 mile round trip long weekend in the North West highlands. Some of the roads were absolutely mental but what a joy the car was to drive. I knew it was good before but with the new hubs, the ride was smooth as silk!

Reignited my love for the car - wouldn't have wanted to do that journey in anything else.

Just need to sort out the clicking brake peddle now as that was the only spoiler of the trip!

Had the front two replaced. Came from a local motorfactors but I didn't do any of the work or ordering; local LR specialist did it.

2 New hubs, New discs and pads at the front and new cv boot came to £660!

Need to get new rear tyres though - just noticed one is wearing on the outer edge.
