hi have a freelander 2 07 plate and have a strange noise less than 2 miles per hour coming from rear centre. had to local garage and they say either haldex or dif. someone with same landy says it from prop shaft bearing due to low speed has anyone any ideas

The rear diff is known to fail. So I'd be checking to see if it's been done already.

been into garage and they couldnt say whether dif or haldex, is there a way to find out one or other. first landy ive owned and may be last

Have you had it long? Has the Haldex and diff been serviced as per the LR schedule?

The FL2 is closer to a Ford, than an LR. ;)

2 years in sept. I only found out bout haldex 2 month ago 'coz not on land rover service schedule so i would say not

It's very possible that the Haldex oil has turned to thick goop, which blocks the filter and then damages the pump. This problem has been well documented on many vehicles that use the Haldex drive coupling. The fluid needs regulator changes, although from memory only Audi specify sensible change intervals at 28K miles IIRC. Most other manufacturers, LR included give daft change intervals, which of course forces the Haldex to run with duff fluid.

The diff normally makes a whining noise, so I think that can be discounted here.
