I'm hoping that my 1.8 wont be too much to tax. After all how are they going to decide what dicates a 4x4?? Fiat panda 4x4 and All Subaru's - will they be hit too!!
Hopefully the porsche cayanne will be hit hard as the fuel economy is ridiculous!!
Shame they can't just add the tax to fuel prices - the more you use the more you pay!!

Well ive looked it up on the DVLA website.
Apart from the anual increase wont affect my 99 freelander at all cos of its age (pre 2001 I think it is)
the rumoured 400 pound for 4x4s was all hype - its still based on co2 emissions and the 400 pound level is only for cars in band G that were manufactured after 2006
for freelanders made after 2001 they still fall into band F which is about £205 I think
something like that anyway

Yep, This is another classic case of mis-reporting by the press to scare people away from buying 4X4's. The new tax bracket only covers cars manufactured after march 06 so all of you (us) with older ones can breath a sigh of relief although it will go up a tenner this year and 5 quid for each of the following 2 years.
I'm really chessed off about how the press report these things as given I'm currently flogging my freebifter I know people will instantly turn away thinking they will be paying 400 quid tax. Ultmitmately I may get less than I want, unless somebody who has seen through the bad publicity buys her.
I'm fed up of 4X4's being slated for this. When you look at the emissions database, just about any car with a decent sized engine comes in the same bracket as my Freelander. You don't see too many campaigns to stop people buying 2litre Mondeo's do you.

£99 for six months and £180 for a year.
the same as my 2000my 1.8 k series. they are only banded on emissions(A to G) from 2001 onwards,which makes me laugh as my uncle will be paying £205 a year for his 04 plate td4 which uses a lot less fuel than mine.

They said the last increase was only for new vehicles but I was still hit with the maximum tax for my 04 TD4.
I think we were all ripped off last time and I bet we get ripped off again.
As said earlier, Im driving a 2litre deisel engine, the same used in a Rover 75 and an BMW 3 Series, but why am I paying more road tax?
And why do I have to pay more for deisel that is cheaper to produce (less refining than petrol). it used to be cheeper to buy, then those scheming cheeting politicians take more money out of my wage packet.
Geez, Im in a bad mood, I have been on two forums and have done nothing but shout and complain.
