Should also add, the tap is around 3/8 drive, will use a 3/8 adaptor socket as there just isnt enough room to rotate a conventional tap wrench in situ.
remove every half cutting turn to clean off swarf, otherwise it could either jam or strip the thread.

Aye, Dafty's reet there. 1/2 turn, undo one turn to break swarf, wind back, engage, another half turn etc. Doing by hand use tallow, or have someone pouring Shell Tellus all over you whilst doing it 
On another note, Belzona is the only material I know that an angle grinder has no effect on apart from polishing it. Do NOT use to effect bodywork repairs...

when i wur working in a precision injunears we had special taps fer ally, they was more like a bolt as they dint have the cut aways on the side of em. they dint so much cut as compress the metal oot the way. yer drill the hole then tapped it and there was very little swarf.
this gave a stronger thread so was less likey to strip and it wur all done in one go, none of this back and forward stuff

OK troopers!
Heres an update, eventually got round to tapping the two bolt holes.
The LH bolt seen in the OP had stretched the threads, I tried a re-tap with M14/2 tap, threads were shot.
Had to upsize to M16/2 and insert a helicoil.
It wasnt difficult, just needed to improvise the tap wrench by using a 3/8 socket adaptor and long extension bar.
The new bracket is £53 plus VAT, not bad but when you consider that the engine has to be dropped on the drivers, its a lot of work..... Im lazy and too smart for that
Note the angle of the threads, had to insert the smaller tap to give me a guide to the approach angle, did it by eye.

She is as good as new, now whats next on my list for fixing LOL
