Hi All,

About to order a pair of new tyres to replace the worn front 2, I understand that we need to put new tyres to the rear on freelanders so intend putting the rears to the front and the new to the back - simple.

However the chap (a 4x4 "specialist") I bought the car from said the minor facelift freelanders (2002 with black bumpers rather than dull grey, black interior rather than beige etc.), didn't suffer from this problem.

So before I do what I think is right and put the new tyres on the back - do I need to?

the general gist of it is that the later models are less prone to windup of the drive train due to a modified ratio of the ird and possibly rear diff. That said the VCU can still be damaged by over slipping and heating up so I believe that even after the model changes its advised to put the new tyres on the rear.

Thanks - thought as much. New tyres going on the back - perhaps we should add this sort of thing to a freelander FAQ sticky at the top?

The owners handbook (even for late models) says to put new tyres on the back so do as it says, ignore your so-called 'specialist'.
