Bought mine when I was 19 but im now 22. There seem to be more and more young people owning the P38. There are younger owners of the P38 in the US but thats also because you can drive younger there and I guess insurance isnt quite as bad over there as everyone drives a 4x4.

In my opinion its a good car to own when your young, you very very quickly learn to drive it sensibly, you can't go racing about in it like an idiot or you WILL kill yourself, it makes you look after it otherwise it bites you, it eats up all your spare cash so you cant spend any on drugs, fags, other crap and stupid blingy wheels/booming stereo for it and lastly you HAVE to have a job to own one because it does need a constant supply of cash, this reduces the chance of you being a young lay-about :D:D:D

Most importantly, for me anyway, it has taught me about vehicles, before I had my P38, I had a Renault Clio, all I knew about that under the bonnet was where the washer fluid went and how to put oil in and that was it.

With the P38 you quickly learn that bills will run up to stupid amounts if you don't try jobs yourself, so, in turn you d/l a copy of the workshop manual on go from there. Thats how I started with my P38 - I now do most jobs myself and have no problem with servicing the Clio I used to own.

The other perk of owning a P38 is the fact its a LR, I always give a wave to other P38's and attend events and stuff, I shall be at the L2B run in Oct and will no doubt meet lots more LR owners, you make quite a few new friends when you own a LR (especially at the local dealer parts dept :D:D )

They are truly wonderful vehicles to own and more young people should be able to own them and look after them, I dont think I could ever go back to a normal sized vehicle, going fast doesn't interest me, getting there in one piece in nice comfort is my first priority

Well said, Wills. It's refreshing to hear younger drivers discouraging others from turning into mobile killers. Enjoy the P38.

You lucky git, a Pop or Herald. I'm too embarassed to say what I owned at 20. Still it took me till 24 to get my RRC & even then it was nearly £700 to insure third party only & this was a good few years ago. I couldn't have afforded anything like that at 19.
