Ive Purchased a set of alloys like these (pic below) for 100 notes with decent treads and im right impressed but when i come to fit they don't fit.. well they do fit but the thread for the nuts doesn't come up high enough. now im guessing the nuts are different for alloys but when ever i look for discovery alloys nuts i find locking nuts at a rip-off price (more than i paid for the alloys) im not in particular after locking nuts im thinking if i can find a standard nut as from what i have read between the lines there M14 Threads fine pitch

BTW i have a 200TDI k reg
 
nuts fur steels have a cone at the bottom.
nuts fur allows have a captive washer and are flat at the bottom.

using steel nuts on alloys will bugger them completely.
 
Those look like disco alloys from the 200tdi period so will fit yours. As said above you need the proper nuts.
 
nevver mind that yule bugger em, yer should be more worried about one or more of them overtaking you as yer driving along
 
I have come across 2 sizes of nuts - both for alloys on the disco. I have the larger PCD hubs and dependant on the alloy there are 2 different styles of wheel nuts.

Yes you need the correct nuts but you also need the correct studs.

Do your wheel studs have a slot in the centre as if to fit a flat head screw driver??????

YES= alloy wheel studs
NO = steel wheel studs

Alloy wheel studs are longer hence the threads not sticking out far enough to get a nut on on yours.

I've had two discos with standard alloys on and neither of em had slots in em. I was doing a bit of swapping around a few weeks ago and the disco alloys fit fine on me 110 using the correct nuts for the wheels and likewise my steel modulars fit fine on the disco using the steel wheel nuts.
 
My '94 300 Tdi has alloys (Freestyle) and no slots in wheel studs! The spare is steel and fits with the correct nuts supplied with the car.
 
The steel wheels will fit on studs designed for alloys. The problem is trying to fit alloys on studs designed for steel wheels as has been said already the studs aren't long enough. and while it might be possible to get the alloy nuts onto the studs If the end of the stud isn't level with the outside edge of the nut then the stud is too short. Obviously with an alloy nut it has a cap so you need to measure the inside depth
 
Just had a look on my micro cat and there is only one size stud shown for all Discos 89 to 98.

Doesn't that apply to Defenders, I thought all Discoveries could take alloy wheels, with the right nits of course.

Got it sorted and dashed off for the weekend, Went to the scrapyard and they had a full set. cost me a tenner, turned out 4 of the nuts were for smaller studds and as such i was short went back to the scrappers and he gave me my cash back and told me to keep them :) so i have currently 3 alloys on and short 4 nuts lol.. thanks for yas help lads


BTW M14 fine threads seem to be 1998 onwards discos pre this are M16 (Both fine pitch ;) )
