so an odd fault on my td6 today.
I went out to the car this morning and the suspension was low. Couldn't remember if I'd hit the decamp button so ignored it.
Got back to my car after work to find it had dropped again.
Ignition in and light shows height normal.
Fire it up and it rises to standard height.
Thought I'd it out so lowered it no problem. Raised it to standard no problem. Tried to lift it to off road height and only the rear lifts. Front is still standard height. Thought maybe it needed to pump more air so left it on tick over for a good 10 minutes and it still won't rise. Button flashing.
Any thoughts??? Thanks all

is that what would cause it to drop though? I only do a 3 mile each way commute so could understand a lack of air build up but suprised it could cause it to drop.

Lack of air won't cause it to drop but lack of air will certainly stop it from rising.

The L322 will go both up and down when it self levels when it is left to sleep...(the P38 will only level down).

So if there is no air, the vehicle will attempt to level up, when it can't it'll drop the other corners to match the lowest....until it sits on the bumps.

I'd be looking at your front struts for leaks....

Run the car with a door open for 15 minutes just to ensure you have a full tank of air, then try again. If still nothing, you have a compressor problem or air leak.

Ok cool that makes sense as it's often parked on uneven ground. I'll give it a go tomorrow on flat ground. I did try and listen for air leaks but could hear anything. Is there a better way to check? The bags look ok but I guess pipework etc could be old and perished

Get a spray bottle with soapy water and spray the bags.....best to do it when they are extended ride height as sometimes the leaks are in the folds where the bag folds over itself as it drops.

Ok so had a look today and I found the front neaerside was lower than the rest of the car even when running. With the engine off I can hear an air leak in that corner. Is it most likely to be the airbag or would you suggest removal for inspection before buying the replacement?
Are they easy to fit?

You could jack the front up if it won't go all the way up to expose all the air spring but as Ant says, loads of soapy water should find out if the spring is leaking even if you don't raise it you will see bubbles where the bag folds over.
If it is the bag then change as a pair, don't buy dunlop and quite easy to fit if you have a jack and some tools

Difficult to say but I think it's the bag. Holds air ok with a small leak until jacked up then just blows it out instantly.

The bags roll over on themselves and semi seal the leak, when you say it blows it out instantly, can you tell where it blows out?
Obviously be careful putting your arm under the wheel arch with faulty suspension but i would say it is the bag.
If you jack the front up, put an axle stand under the body and lower the jack the wheel will hang down and fully extend the bag, or remove the wheel and i normally put 4 axle stands under the other corners in case the suspension freaks out and tries lowering other corners and then it falls of the stand.

with it at standard height even with the engine running, I jack it up a few inches and hear a gush of air and the bag deflates. So quickly that I can't see or feel where from.
Pretty sure it'll be the bag.
Would you buy a complete strut or just the bag??

I would buy the complete strut personally although the bags are more readily available now, if they are original then the damper is probably quite tired by now but change as a pair, mine went within days of each other.
A few years ago i would have just said to buy the Delphi complete struts but there are a few new options now.

Aerosus are new and if your search landyzone somebody bought some recently i believe

Arnott are another contender

The delphi complete struts are a sure thing.

I personally despise dunlop as I bought their struts and i believe the bearings are faulty and they have totally ignored my every attempt and method to contact them regarding them.

The aerosus ones seem pretty reasonably priced so I'll probably go for those. I do so little mileage I won't get the benefit from spending £400 each for them.
I am tempted at just getting the bag at £120 each. Is there a way to test the strut?
Saves me £100 on the pair but as you say the struts could be shot

The damper is designed to stop bounce and i would say that when they are apart, providing they are not leaking and you can feel resistance when pushing and pulling the rod in and out (steady Alan) then you should be ok.
Here is the legend that is Storey Wilson.

I did watch that video earlier
Those new design bags look great I must admit. If I did loads of miles I would be considering those for sure.

Having had a quick google and not taking into account of the aerosus website reviews there are a few warning signs. Have a good google for reviews and make sure you pay via credit card if you go for it
