Hi
I have just picked up my new p38 Range rover 4.6 vouge on a 2000 plate and it has a air bag fault light on the dash... any ideas anyone as im new to Range Rovers.

Si:)

Usual is connection under drivers seat. But don't play with airbags with battery connected unless you want a face full of a rapidly expanding one.

on a serious note, it can come up in combination with ABS/TCS problems which in turn may be related to low battery volts or to a failed accumulator. because its considered not user servicable its not a self-resetting fault and can only be reset with a full-scale diagnostic tool. its possible that whoever had it before you fixed the other problems but didn't have the tool to reset this fault. the other place the fault can often originate is the fusebox. so I would suggest you first check your battery and fuses and relays. then then find someone who can reset the code. if it doesn't come back, you're sorted but if it does then get a professional to look at it. at least that's what i'd do. :)

Ther is no connection between the SRS and ANY other system on the car. Low battery volts may pull up an error message but other messages usually come up first. As Wammers said underseat connectors are one culprit, the other is the rotary coupler behind the stering wheel.
Soft faults should re-set after 5 ignition on off cycles, hard faults need diagnostics, fired airbag faults cannot be re-set and in that case the ECU has to be replaced:)

Not my experience Data. I had the problem, and solved it, exactly as described.

May depend on year, for the 2000MY RAVE quite clearly states a soft fault will clear itself.
I learnt enough about mine to modify it to remove the side airbags without the SRS ECU being upset.:)
