My NSF half shaft has a knackered ABS ring from a failed bearing and a have a decent used one ready to go in. The old one is seriously marked!

What I need to know is how easy is it and do I have to look out for any issues? Oh yeah and do I need any special tools for it?

Any advice gratefully received!

Fairly simple. You may wish the fit a new oil seal in the axle.

Thanks W. I know the seal was only changed 2 months ago, so should be okay do you think?

Depends how bad the wheel bearing was. If it's been flopping about like a cock in a three cornered hat then I would replace the seal.

No I replaced the bearing, or ratrher someone did it for me as I was at work. So the bearing is done and the seal is new. The prob is that I did not know the ABS ring was knackered. So now I have to do that as well. DOH!

Also am I right in presuming that I will not have to upset the geometry of the front wheel?

No need to do that. Just undo the stake nut (unstake it first) then take the bolts out of the hub. Remove ABS sensor and bearing hub should then pull off drive shaft. Maybe a few gentle taps required maybe a puller if the hub is tight on the shaft. Then carefully remove drive shaft so as not to damage oil seal. Grease shaft up well along it's length grease oil seal up and carefully feed new shaft into engagement with diff. Then replace hub, ABS sensor, fit wheel on a couple of nuts drop on floor and re torque stake nut. Take wheel off and reset stake. Refit wheel and fanny is you aunt and bob is your uncle. Unless they have both had the operation in which case please transpose that statement.

I had an uncle like that in the 70s. Think she may now be my aunt!

Thanks again all. Sounds simple enough, so will check Rave for torque setting and try it this weekend.

Think you maybe better watching a video of a P38 to be honest. Unless it was a Disco 2.

Well that's another job ticked off! Not a hard job, but it was made easy by some brake parts being recently replaced.

It took a couple of hours, but only cos I was faffing around and a few stuck parts. It is a job that anyone with basic skills could do.
