I'm driving to Bruges for the day tomorrow, and I was wondering if the only way to deal with my facelift headlights is to put some lens deflectors on the car? About the same distance as Leicester for me via the M40!

On previous cars I just moved a lever and they then went 'flat' so they were legal on the continent, but the handbook and internet searches suggest that I have to stick some of these things to my headlights.....I have bought some but wondered if there was an easier way.

I have my breathalyser, fluorescent vest, triangle, fire extinguisher, spare bulbs etc and a load of other stuff.

Doesn't leave much room for the Xmas market tat does it? ;)

I just used insulating tape before and it survived a blast to Spain and back. not on the Flr though. Just made sure the glass was spotlessly clean with solvent, but with plastic lenses I don't think I'd do that.
 
I'll fit the later today when in the tunnel.

5am is too early. I rarely get up before 7:30am.

What sort of bulbs does the Freelander use for the headlights? On the P38 I can provide a simple mod to deflect the beams for Europe, it might also be possible on the Freelander.

The facelift uses H7's

The early ones use H4
 
If you have an FL1, which uses H4 bulbs, its easy.

Look how the bulb fits in the holder. Three locating tabs on the bulb in three slots on the lamp unit. Use snips to cut the uppermost of the three locating tabs off the bulb. Refit the bulb, and you will see that the locating slots for the lower two tabs are wide enough to rotate the bulb about 10 degrees from its original position. This provides an almost flat beam pattern with a very slight kick up to the right. Its enough to pass the French Control Technique anyway, as this is what I did rather than buy a pair of new lamps.

When back in uk, just rotate the bulb back to its original position.

Exactly, except I bend the tab back rather than cut it. I have got many expat cars through the CT here on UK headlights:)

Stick on beam adjusters I'm afraid :(
There is a dip beam control reflector in the H4 headlight bulb, so turning the bulb turns the beam. The H7 has a single central filament so there is nothing to adjust. Dip beam control is done by the reflector.

Yep, it doesn't work with the single fillament bulb or for that matter HID's
 
I know this is several years on. I have a pre facelift Freelander 1 and I'm in the Netherlands. Do you think this will work here? Or if anybody has some LHD headlights, I'd be grateful. Thanks.
