3 garages later and no further ahead:(, all said that they don't pick anything up when they plug into the socket in the passengers footwell, last one said he traced it through so he suspects the ABS ECU, thing is it does not power up any machine but the last one said his has its own power source but still got nothing. One last go tomorrow then i'm going to send the ECU to the Doctor and see if it is f*cked. The SRS is still lit aswell and can't get to the back of that one either, the car has been great and mechanicaly very reliable (touch wood) but electrics sadly let it down. Any recommendations, have used the Doctor before and he gave good service.

before sending the ecu off there is a 3 way splice in the loom which runs right under the heater matrix o rings which when coolant weeps as they allways do drips right onto the loom and rots the join.
had similar problem when plugged in could read certain ecus but not others by memory colours were pink and maybe red? also on the same part of the loom is a green spliced wire which can suffer with the same prob.
as for srs check bulbs not taking the **** in the dash there are 2 bulbs for the srs when the main bulb fails the other comes on permantly i.e does not flash renew bulb and get reset!

No sign of any corrosion with the wireing, took out the ecu and there must be power as the TC light has come on (ECU still out) garage said that they could pick up no power at the sensors. Going to send the ecu to the doctor to sort or rule it out. Tried to see what would happen if I de-pressurised the system, pumped the pedal 30 times, turned the key and took 23 secs to charge up, left it 5 mins and pump did not run, pressed pedal and pump ran so hopefully the pump seems Ok.

Ok, tried another ECU, one that is working and the fault is still the same, ABS light on TC light off. Nobody seems willing to find out what is wrong with the diagnostic plug not working and I'm not the best with electrics, don't want to temp fate by why could it not have been something mechanical then I would have it sorted by now. Next time home I will have to test all the wireing but have no idea what wires do what, other than that the brakes seem to work fine, powerfull and smooth and could not get it to skid on a smooth road in the wet braking hard from 50 mph.
Confused

there are a couple more common corrosion fault areas for you to check! drivers and passenger footwells remove the kickpanels ( side closest to doors ) espec drivers side there are quite a few multi plugs in there and all suffer badly as water leaks from the bulkhead down the loom into the plugs and rots them out.

Cheers Nathan, will check that out and if not I'm resigned to the fact that I have the exciting task of checking every wire through next time I'm home both from the diagnostic plug and the abs ecu.
