My wife and I bought a P38 2.5DSE on Sunday which we really love already but I have just found out that my 2 remote keys that came with the car are both number 1s ,I understand you must have a number 1and 2 ,my local main stealer wants £150 for a new key ,is it possible to swap keys if someone has two number 2 keys ?
If so has anyone got 2 number 2 keys maybe we can sort something out.

Be careful darklordvader,

The new fob might still need to be programmed by the dealer, although I believe there may be a DIY method.

Lp keys are coded at the factory,they just need initialising to the car as shown in the handbook.You cant use or programme a key from another car.What you can do is order a key 3 or 4.

the keys are £103 from land rovers, i had to buy one earlier this year, boo!!
can a dealer not reprogram one of your number one keys into a number two key?

and like it has allready been mentioned a key will have to be programed to your vehicle from your chassis number at the factory, so a replacement from ebay will give you a load of trouble most probably.

I understand that the manufacture of the key is in two stages, the key itself is cut in the U.K. and is then sent to Germany for programming to suit the Lockset code. If you don't have the Lockset code (Around 13 digits long), your LR stealer will get it for you but you will need the VIN and proof of ownership such as the car Log Book.

Just come back from my local land rover dealer to get some touch up paint ,I asked about the key situation and they have told me there is now way around it other than to buy a new key/remote ...£125.........Bummer.

£103 from lookers in hadleigh, essex. could save a few quid at least!
