The overhead console of my 98 jeep gr. cherokee has a selection for
compass and thermometer. The thermometer has been reading -43 degrees
for weeks now.

* Anyone know how/where to find this part (JC Whitney is no good)?
* Anyone know where on the truck the external thermometer is located?

You'll have to go to the dealer or the bone yard. The sensor is
located behind the grill to one side of the radiator. On my Dodge it's
on the passenger side.

Dealer part.

Easy to get at, just remove the front grille, the sensor should
be in the middle just behind it.

Remember any time you do anything, you have to actually drive the
vehicle to update the display.

The sensor is on a 2 wire plug. If you disconnect it on a ZJ,
the display should go to OC. If you put a jumper across the
plug [back to the computer] it should go to SC.

Shorts to ground are fairly common, with power off, both legs
of the wire should be greater than 5 ohms.

A dealer might be able to tell you what is wrong just from
the -43 temp displayed.
