Hi All,

Just got myself a 96 XJ 2.5 TD as my first car (and I'm well chuffed with
myself!). Its 120,000 on the clock but full dealer service history. I want
to do as much of the work as possible myself, so I've found a full set of
filters (air/oil/fuel) on ebay from Mansfield 4x4 for £35 + £23 p&p (I'm in
Ireland). Any hints on what I'd need to change these myself? I've got the XJ
Haines manual but it its the american version - doesn't deal with the diesel
version.

Also, after a couple of weeks driving, reverse has become increasingly
difficult to engage - to avoid grinding I have to pull the gearstick as hard
as possible (giving it everything!) to the right, before sliding down to
reverse. Any ideas what the problem might be?

All the best,

Jamie.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the advice - I was kinda hoping, in the spirit of newsgroups, not
to have to pay for information.

Regards,

Jamie.

The 2.5 is the same VM engine as in the Range rover up to 93/94. Google info
on changing filters etc. The info is fairly standard on how to go about all
of these fluid and filter changes. You'll probably find the generic filters
are cheaper here(ire) than buying in the UK. Just find yourself a good motor
factors. I don't think you'll find this engine covered in any of the manuals
even in the R.R. Haynes.
The gearbox problem will probably only get worse. Where are you living? I
know a few people that might be able to help.
