Help! I have a 2.5 petrol, in my 90. Once it's been running a while and switched off after local traffic it won't start unless left for 20 mins. Other times when in local traffic, I hear a noise and the engine just cuts out, again 20 mins before it re starts? Any ideas out there?

The fuel lift pump is mounted to the engine block and is operated by an arm working with the camshaft ! Take off fuel pipe at the carb crank engine over only for a second or so and if pumping correctly you will see pulses of fuel spurting out of the pipe , if this is the case then take the top off the carb remove the small linkage to the pump diagram and clean out the float bowl ! It will have some red crap at the bottom ' then take out main jet and emulsion tube clean these refit same with pilot jet ( this one is prone to blocking up)it's smaller !! Blow out any dirt etc check float valve and seat ( they wear oval and cause flooding after a ru n! Wet plugs!! Make sure the float isn't full of fuel , if alls well put it all back together and set air mixture three full turns out !! Should be all good !! Check distributor etc for wear etc ! Also coil may be worth a look !!!! Good luck
