right..

my gear/transfer box is about to explode... since last year it whines badly! to the point that at 40/50mph i cant even hear the CB radio..

in a local garage to me, the owner is a friend of a mate, there's a crashed 90...

the gearbox and transfer box are still in it, and it has done 85k miles.... he wants £350 for it...

does this seem a reasonable price?
considering i wont have to travel anywhere far as its less than 10 miles from my house.

i payed £30 for my 200tdi defender gear box and £40 for a 1.4 tbox may be i was lucky at the time

well, looking on ebay and cant find anything that cheap! i think you were very, very lucky!

I think £350 for gearbox & transfer box is pretty good. I have seen people asking silly money for them, and some people getting them for almost nothing. But the average does seem to be between £300-£400.

£400 is about right for a known good one, you pays your money you takes your choice.

Given that you know it's source, thats got to be worth at least £50.

If it's no good will the garage dude refund ?

not sure, going there tomorrow... a mate was there but he didnt have a clue what he was looking at.

I know the transfer stick is behind the gear stick, so its off a defender and not a disco
the bell housing is also a short one, so its off a defender again

but he didnt check where reverse is, so dont know if its an Lt77 or R380..

will have to check all that tomorrow

right... after talking to my friendly LR guru mechanic, he has sent me to his mate that rebuilds gearboxes... he says it wont be much more than 350, if i get my gear and transfer box to him, and I'll have a "brand new" gear and transferbox! with 12 month warranty

I hope he's local..or lz courier service can help...otherwise stick £50 each way on that price for freight.

i got the gear box of a fella on difflock and t box off northern monkeys fook ebay buy off forum members you save loads
