Hi everyone... new to this wading thing and the 2 wading holes that should be plugged up when wading and unplugged when on the road... why are they not just ok to be plugged up all the time? just abit lost on this one, cheers

because of oil leaks and ingress ,they allow timing belt housing and clutch housing to drain ,

auto bell housing like clutch on manual runs dry to so would have a drain
LR say every 6000 miles.

leave them out till you know your going wading ,leaks if they happen dont work on a time table

Don't take chances leave them out till you go wading, if your oil seal leaks your clutch / belt will get ruined . After all it only takes two minutes to screw em in .
2 schools of thought.....
Leave em in and remove on a regular basis, but risk forgetting and screwing the clutch ( although it needs a lot of oil to fill the housing up to that level).
Leave em out and risk forgetting them when going thru mud and water ands redwing the clutch.....

I prefer to watch the oil patches on the floor to indicate something is wrong before its too late . If you can forget to put them in you can forget to take en out , water is more forgiving than oil

mine seems to have alot of oil around the timing hole or maybe its the sump seal.... not sure but good points and tip from you guys... cheers all
I agree, it doesn't take a huge amount, but still a fair volume.
