I need a new ignition barrel. Does anyone know if the part no stc 1435 is right for an early auto 300 tdi.

I think they"re all the same. I"ve now fitted 3 of them to both petrol and diesel, auto and manual. I buy them off ebay for about £30. However, it does mean that your key ring will have to carry an ignition only key, you will still need the original key for the filler cap.
The two shear bolts undo easily by tapping them round with a screw driver and hammer.

Thanks, I'm having trouble with ignition. Turn key and lights come on dash [oil light ,glow plugs etc] then just a click. It will only start with a live wire from starter solenoid to battery when ignition is on. I hope a new switch will solve my problem.
