hi all while my s3 was jacked up I thought I'd play with the free wheeling hubs ( as you do). They are the fierly type. When you lock one side, spinning the wheel turns the prop, but the other side is not moving the prop. Does this mean anything? Have I found another broken part! :)
Also I need to remove one of them to fix a leaking oil seal, is this as easy as undoing the visible nuts around the hub?
Cheers in advance

Ok when both wheels are locked, turning one forward moves the other wheel. The other side turns the prop but not the wheel

To remove you need to undo the grub screw on the side of the cover and pull out the long plastic locking strip, don't break it! Pushing and twisting the hub helps take the tension off.

The hub cover will now come off and you can undo the castellated nut in the centre.

Undo the outer ring of bolts and the whole assembly will pull off.

Well got the hub off and cleaned off all the muck .... And found the wheel cylinder leaking :-(
Oh well more new parts and a weekend of no progress!
Can anyone confirm the working or not of the free wheeling hubs?
Cheers

if both hubs are locked and you turn the wheel either the other wheel must rotate in opposite direction or prop has to turn which ever is easier ie one wheel may have more drag so is easier to turn prop and not the other wheel, , putting box in low or 4 wheel drive with hand brake on means prop cant be turned so it has to be the opposite wheel turning as you turn one ,

Thanks Jamesmartin looks like it's not busted then

Hi all, new hub seal in, bearings in, hub back on new wheel cylinder on... How does the free wheeling hub goes on? Read plenty on the web about taking them off, but how does the nylon strip go in? Just thread it through?
Cheers again :)
