Is anyone breaking a freelander or have a 2nd hand VCU I could buy from them or, point me in the right direction of where I can get one.

I've been crippled by Xmas and need a one in the lower price bracket.

Bell engineering is a good place to buy from.

Don't go buying a BS vcu from anyone who tells you they have a new improved design, which is just crap.

dont get one from some one who just tells you it is ok they might just be trying to get rid of a bad one I went to freelander spares but they are away until the 5th jan

Do not buy a second hand one - it will be knackered probably.

A massive thumbs up for Bell Engineering - a recon from them is a good one - google them and read the info on the site - good stuff.

Is it the VCU that is knackered. As a temp fix remove the prop shaft just to keep you going. If it is the VCU that you need, listen to these lot and go to Bell Engineering. Buying a second hand VCU is false economy and could be as knackered as yours.

Just FYI a refurbed VCU from bell engineering is only £200 providing you hand them back your unit for recycling.
You will likely also need new bearings as these dont come off too easy and usual need replacing as a result. A 3rd part set of bearing will cost you £28 from John Craddock.

Hope this helps, and as the guys have mentioned, remove your prop shaft and VCU etc ASAP to prevent further damage until its sorted.

I too have learnt this the hard way...

Test yer vcu before you go buying one. Many feel the "tightness" on reversing simply because they int driven or owned a Freelander 1 before. If you'd have suffered, shorry owned a Freelander then you'd recognise the "feature". Thats not to say it int broke'd. If you test it then you'll know for sure.

I know your skint but it's false economy buying a used one.
Check that it really is buggered before doing owt else.
A cheap "fix" you can do till you get the cash is take off the props and vcu.

Bell..Bell. Bell. Fitted mine a couple of months ago and it cured a noise problem (droning sound) and i wondered how it would fair up come the white stuff.
As i had no need for 4*4 back then when i hit a decent incline in snow i was tempted to cross me fingers. Ow...

No need. Worked perfect.
