I would be grateful for advice on replacing the rear crank seal on an early 200tdi 90. Can it be done with the engine in situ and drop the gearbox or is it better to remove the engine. Any tips or advice appreciated.

it can be done that way but easier to remove engine ,dont forget new gasket for rear of block to flywheel housing

Thanks - maybe just take the engine out an do the timing belt an front seal at the same time, oh I'm not too sure how many miles on clutch so could be time to bite the bullet an spend a few more pounds.

Have you any recommendations on part brands for all the stuff an suppliers - I def don't want to go with Britpart!!

this britpart thing is a bit of hype, some of their pattern stuff is **** no doubts but so is a lot of other pattern stuff they also sell genuine and oe too, a oe seal from britpart is as good as anyone elses ,dayco belt and oe seals are more than adequate ,try famous four they usually sell the right parts from all of the suppliers

No probs - I've had a few let downs with Britpart before but I don't fancy doing this job too often just because of an inadequate part. Thanks in the meantime.
