so I have read many threads, but yet to find one similar to the problem our defender is having. The landrover is currently at a specialist only they are struggling with it.

Its a TD5 has had an economy re map & believe it doesnt have an EGR. just under 73k miles.

what went wrong : Driving it & felt like it was loosing power/someone putting the brakes on for about 5min, would come & go & no engine managment light on. as i slowed down for a roundabout it went into limp mode & engine managment light came on too. Turned on and off and that didnt sort it out.
The engine turns on fine its just literally lost the throttle pedal so to speak.
Until this time the vehicle has shown NO signs of having any problems & has driven fine

RAC came out & it had 21 fault codes. Narrowed this down to 9 via disconnecting battery & the guys computer thing. Once it got to the specialist there was only 1 relevant code down the the "driver demand" throttle pedal.

The Garage has Tried: Re programming pedal, new ecu, new throttle pedal, cleaning the the red connector to the ECU as there was oil in the loom.

He got it running the other day no problem heard it revving in the background, this was with a known good ECU & throttle pedal, however this only lasts when its been fitted. Puts the keys away & comes back to it & it throws up the same thing engine managment light on & not revving.

Anyone have any other ideas as to what i could suggest? or heard or a way to solve it etc?

Similar thing happend to me. Try adjusting the Turbo wastegate for less boost, should solve the issue.

I had mine hooked up to a nanocom with a few faults recorded, inc driver demand. Turned the wastegate down all issues gone.

I have yet to let myself loose on the landy apart from driving it!

Don't forget the condition of the wiring loom itself. Shortly after I bought mine there was a similar issue where the engine could be revved occasionally, but it would keep going into limp mode with the yellow engine warning light on. Eventually a (very expensive) main dealer identified some intermittent wiring loom faults and soldered in some new wires. It's been OK since. It was very frustrating and baffled me and several AA men.

Subsequently, reading about the subject online I've come across examples of people who've had similar problems and succeeded in wiring the throttle pedal directly to the ECU with multi core trailer cable (needs a bit of splicing and soldering, obviously) which they claim has provided a solution.

She's been fixed now, thank you for all the suggestions. Turned out to be something to do with the resistor for the throttle pedal. Don't know full details as they spoke to my dad about it

Yeah, although once we'd been told this they rang two days later saying she was having the same problem. Tried all the wires & turns out ECU at fault. Which they replaced.... with a discovery 2 pre 2000 ECU so not too impressed. Now in the process of getting that sorted & hopefully original one tested & repaired. So nearly there. None the less she hasn't been in limp mode with the discovery ecu.

Hmmm thats alright. I think you can get 'new' ECUs off ebay

Hmm might have to check that out if we can't get the original one repaired!
