My father has been having an intermittent problem when cranking his Discovery 2 TD5. Occasionally when the ignition key is turned the vehicle does not crank.
I have checked the battery – has 800CCA, have tried both keyfobs / keys etc.
The problem will suddenly start working after about 10 turns of the key. Could it be the ignition switch on the way out??
Any ideas?? Users with similar stories?? I have searched to no avail......

Sounds like it could be the starter solenoid. This should be on the starter motor (at the end of the lead from the battery) and should click when the ignition switch is turned. If it doesn't click, check the small wire connector - loose connection, damaged wire, etc.
