After driving a few thousand miles with the temp gauge sitting about 2/3rds up the white on the guage once it was up to temp, driving home last night (A-road at 55- 60) it went beyond that into the black and almost into the red.
Stopped and had a look at everything - top rad hose was warm/hot (but not too hot to hold) bottom hose was warmish as it came out the radiator. No major pressurisation of the expansion tank beyond the normal little hiss. Everything felt normal to be honest and the engine was still running and sounding nice.
Replaced the temp sender as it was the only cooling related bit I had in stock, the gauge is still working its way into the black and near the red on a constant drive at 60.
I'm thinking either the gauge is bucked or the thermostat or water pump are - anyone got any other probable causes or things to investigate?
Cheers.
