I changed a bearing the other weekend and went work all week bout 4 mile a day and no leak then went out for run to in laws 30 mile round trip and hub seal ****ing out oil on the hub i just changed bearing on.

Whipped hub off and seals got split on the lip to the stub so changed it and emery clothed the stub and put but grease on it and refitted.

Same again this week no leaks till today same run and ****ing out same hub.

Im sure im missing something here so asking you guys with any knowledge what it is
 
hub seals arent oil proof they are to protect and hold grease in,oil seal is in the stub axle if 300 or an outer seal in hub, presumably your adjusting bearings so there is just no play
 
Yes bearing are tight enough there was ep90 in the hub both times so would you say change the stub axle seal then
 
i dont know how the 300tdi seals are i just want to warn you that a clogged axle breather might be involved too so worth a check anyway to not ruin some new seals in no time
 
So just been out to tip bout 2 mile away so 4 mile round trip and no leak so would a blocked breather build up pressure to leak out or the ep90 is thickened up and not thin enough to leak out. It only happening after a long run so its when its hot
 
So am best replacing the breather tube and the connector and then do both the stub seal and hub seal if split which i think it will be
 
How come this trouble has only just started tho if breather is building up pressure wouldnt it have blown them before it only this past fortnight since i changed bearing
 
Are you using corteco or genuine seals?

@ James Martin, is there a problem running those bearings in oil or id there a seal problem? I circumvented the rear half shaft seals and the same with the stub axle seals on the fronts to enable oil bathing of the wheel bearings, they last longer that way I have found.
 
theres no issue for the bearings running in oil , the same bearings used to on earlier models , its just the seal isnt an oil seal ,though you can buy one frc8221
 
Im using the landrover hub seals which i was given in a landrover bag. I use timken bearings and i bought a bag full of bits of ebay in which were 8 bearings and 4 hub seals ftc4785. I 4t ep90 came in to the hub which was normal and the hub seal stop leaks
 
I prefer to let the hub bearings run in oil, as I think they last a lot longer. If they just run in grease they last only as long as the grease. But if you let the front bearings on a 300 run in oil you may find oil leaks out of the drive flange and on to the out side of the wheel. I fitted Terrafirma drive flanges that have an O ring in the screw on cap to cure that problem.
 
Well the breather was blocked so have bodged 1 for now and ordered a wading kit for it now
