chap down the road is trying to sell a n reg 2.0 mpi disco ,i heard they are not the ones to buy ,underpowered and they use the rover 2.0 ltr engine out of a rover 800,anybody had one of these ?
he only wants 1500 quid

mate of mine has got an L reg one.
it's well under powered but he got it really cheep (half what you're quoting) and very low mileage / immaculate / no rust.
he's happy for now and plans to put a TDi into it at some point (probably when the head gasket fails).
