I bought a range rover 2.4 diesal 2 weeks ago and it has had a manual gearbox put in before I got it. When driving it was not going in first or 2 nd gear easily put goes in the others fine. Today went I set of i got half a mile down the road and when I got to a roundabout I put into 2 nd and then when I went to change to 3rd gear the gear box went loose. I have tried looking under the gear stick and everything looks okay so I'm thinking it's inside the gearbox. Can any one give me any clues water it might be?

Are you sure it is a mod to a manual and not a manual as standard??

I no nothing about gearboxes I'm afraid, JamesMartin is your man for the 'Boxes

+1 = JamesMartin seems to be the expert.

Mine's a total bar-steward going into 5th or reverse at the moment. I was going to drop the gearbox but 1) I've gone down with flu and 2) it hasn't stopped raining in weeks. I'll let you know what I find when I finally get around to it in case yours is similar.

I found the problem it was the gear selector pin. Went on ebay 20 quid and now it works fine. I rang a range rover specialist they told me the pins are not listed separately so would have to buy the whole box. 600 quid they quoted me. There was only 2 pins on ebay aswel so quite lucky thanks for comments.
