been trying to help a mate out with a cooling prob the n his 1996 4.0l range the pipes at the top and bottom get hot and pressures but rad stays cold could this be A a duf thermostat or B heads fibar

Water runs freely before and after the rad but not getting hot but is red hot on pipes the rad is clay cold but is not blocked as we flushed it before we put it on only thing we couldnt check was stat pipes up to that get hot

Depends on what part of the rad your touching, try touching the tubes instead of the surround.

Not sure on that tomcat we might have to check it out it's like it is getting hot in the engine and matrix and just won't pass through the rad when the rad flushes through from top to bottom and bottom to top no problem at all and if you tighten the expansion cap the pipes go rock hard with the pressure

Turns out needs a new rad is fubar stat is fubar so is the head on passenger bank back pot full of coolant so it's stripped down now my mate is gutted so all parts ordered and head away this week for pressure testing as a few hairlined cracks are visible thanks for the help though folks much appreciated

At least you found the problem may have started with the stat \old rad that then cooked the head gasket n head straight forward repair as long as the blocks ok

Yeah we had it stripped pretty quick now it's just down to my mate when he gets the head sorted and parts ordered
