battery on defender needs replaced as far as I know it is the standard alternator I have a brand new 334 battery in the garage which I think is 85 or 95ah will this be OK to fit on it.

As long as it fits in the space, the bigger the better. I have a 95ah.

Ditto to the above comments. As long as the battery post are the right way round so they can be connected up. I also believe in the bigger the better. I have a 110 amp. Winter temperatures can drop to -18 C here, comforting to know you have a big heavy duty battery with a few more amps.. 200 tdi's are normally good starters anyway.
