Hi,

Well, A year on and I STILL havent got myself a landrover, very close though, starting to go through quotes to see the damage. I am looking at a 110 hard top, but I cant find any insurers that will insure it (except van insurers) and then its super money (£1500!!!!!) a station wagon comes out at £450 fully comp, but its the hard top I need.

Any advice on where to go? Normal online quoted dont even bring up the car!!

Thanks

Ben

dono why i hadnt heard of anyone one else having quotes like that how long you been driving for

get a landy mag full of spealist insuraers-no garentee there cheaper tho god knows how they work it.

Ive just insured my disco through confused.com, Lancaster came out best and im also covered for green laning....:)

Why wouldn't you be covered for green laning? Still a road just like it's tarmac fellows. My Land rover insurance notes have no mention of green lanes or indeed off roading at all in them?

Mine says something along the lines of, Insured for green laning and off road events but if i were to make a claim for something which happened during any of them the excess goes up quite a bit. Ive never seen it mentioned on any of my other insurance papers apart from when it has said that i will not be covered if i take part in any of them. Thought i was covered as this policy is for 4x4's.

Hi,

Thats the trouble, a disco is classed as a car, a 110 hard top is a van to all intents and purposes, therefore normal insurers dont list them.

I will try adrian flux and peter best. I stay well clear of lancaster, I had my 1970 MG insured through them - not a fun experience!!!

Thanks!!

I just insured my td90 hardtop for £97 TPF&T with Class1 business use with 6years noclaims bonus. shuold of been £147 but swinton have a £50 cashback deal on at the moment.

Very few companies will insure you for off road driving. But then as you don't need to be insured if you're offroad why bother?? Unless your work requires you to drive offroad in which case the works insurance should cover you.

you mush oh had a crash or somthing for those size quotes i no my dad got a quote on the series 3 lwb hardtop without windows for £137 and the same price for it as a pick up

Nope, no crashes, passed at 17, named driver through school and college then my own policy after that. 4yrs ncb and a clean lisence. I guess I just chose the wrong insurers. I will give swinton a go. The cost for a station weagon os really good, they just wont insure the van back, which I find a bit odd as it can be removed and repleced with sonmething else.

109party, who was that quote through?

Thanks

BN

that was on a comparison site its not road legal yet but he filled out all the info with the different body styles and thats how much it quote and the comparison site was free to use

4 years NCB, (was a named driver for quite a while through college and uni) I think I may have picked the wrong company
(some wont do van backs, such as elephant or admiral, have to go to a specialist!!)

109party, where did your dad get that quote?

Thanks

Ben

i donno i jus phoned him up and he said was one of the main comparison sites on google jus remember tho hes in his 50s so he has been drivin 4 a long time tho

hmm, makes perfect sense. It would appear that they dont like where I live, I think It will have to be a station wagon (or estate as they call them!)

If I got a van back and added a set of rear winddows, then woul;d it be insurable as a station wagon or still just an estate with windows?

Thanks

Ben

you could get a station wagon i know in the land rover magazines they offer window protection in the form of galvi mesh and frames to deter theves from breaking in or you could use it to stop windows getting broken loading up stuff

I think I am sorted,

My insurance company havent got a clue about landies, which is handy, i can get any insured for a few months until i can get specialist insurance (dont want to loose the 9 months ncb i have built up

cheers

Ben

Just insure it as a 3 door 110 hard top. Don't mention VAN. It sounds like you are the one causing the problems by saying VAN.

Admiral wont touch anything thats "used off road".Well how comes the question"wheres s the vehicle over night?" cos the answer is "on me drive" which obviously int a road

Ratty, Tried that, they only list a 5 door 110, not a 3 door. Even then they class it as an 'estate' not a station wagon, they havent a clue, but I dont want to end up without insurance!! try an online quote with elephant/admiral - enter a hard top reg and its not there, enter a SW reg and bobs ya uncle!!

Have to stay with the elephant group for 3 months more to get the extra years no claims! need to just adjust my policy not cancel and take out new one!!

Do many insurance companies insure for full off road use within a standard policy, I have thought about green laning, surely a standard policy covers this also, as far as I am aware, a green lane is just a road with no tarmac/surface?!?!?
