I have an early Discovery 1, three door, which came with keys only, no remote, and I assumed it did not have central locking as when you turn the key in the drivers door nothing happened to indicate it had central locking at all. It is only when I had to remove the rear tailgate door card that I saw it had a central locking actuator.

I’ve taken off the drivers door card and in the photograph you can see there are two actuators, with a link to the control rods for the door mechanism. I have looked in the official Land Rover workshop manual and the on line JLR parts listing and diagrams and there is no indication that there should be two actuators on the drivers door. Has anybody got experience of this or can give me some guidance on this? It will be much appreciated!

I haven’t a clue either, the vehicle didn’t leave the factory like that.
So, what model year is your D1as their are two central locking systems… the 200 series or 300 series both have a master actuator plus a slave in the remaining doors, whatever its a basic system.

Thanks for your comment, it was first registered March 1990 meaning it was probably built in 1989, it's a genuine V8 – checked that through the VIN number. Maybe it some sort of aftermarket mod that's been fitted during its life, I'm fairly certain it had an aftermarket alarm fitted at some point due to the number of strange stray wires I found when I removed the entire dashboard to replace the fan.

Ok that’s more than likely with that year of disco.

My 87 RR had central locking but only via key in the drivers door lock.

If you wish to go the remote route than you will a kit with ECU and 2x fobs and master actuator, which i used with my RR, the slave actuators can be reused.

The existing wiring in the door can be used, a 12v supply should be there, so its just adapting the existing wire within the drivers door, and fitting a new 4 wire master actuator if u find that the if your existing actuators are just 2wire, plus the ECU fitting locally.
Just a two wire cable feeds each slave so no need to go there, just find the single feed from them in the drivers door, not the correct colours but its something like blue and a white… a 60 minutes job

Wiring diagram comes with the kit.

It possible the the owner had a spare actuator just added as he was updating the system to have a remote. You may find an ECU but it wont be any good without remotes.

Thanks again, your comments much appreciated. I don't need remote as it not a daily drive just as well as it loves petrol!!So i am going to strip out all unnecessary stuff and go back to a basic system
