It's just that my mate is besotted with Discos, and he's seen a lovely TD5, I'm not that familiar myself with Discos but was wondering if he should stick with the TDI version or not. Purely from a maintenance , running cost, build quality etc point of view.
This is said vehicle and yes he lives in Burton , thanks for the offers I'll put it to him.
USED LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2.5 Td5 GS 7 seat, Derby, Derbyshire
I've had 2 300 Tdi's - the last one an ES with full leather , air con etc .
I found them easy to work on and gave a good mpg - usually 33/34 mpg.
They were both 7 seaters as they serve as the family taxi .
I was curious about the Td5 for some time back but like many felt the electronics etc could lead to expensive problems .
Last month however I bought an 01 Td5 7 seater with 160K on the clock .When I drove it ( the first time I had driven a Td5 ) I was very impressed - the engine is very smooth compared to the Tdi and also I found acceleration much better. It has rear air suspension - as have all 7 seaters - and while the mileage is high it has been well maintained . It was owned by a sales manager and serviced regularly .
I certainly wouldn't go back to Tdi and all the family agree - plus the 2 rear seats face forward and have 3 point seatbelts . Mine is the same colour etc as the one in your ad and going by the description a very desirable Disco .
I was considering purchasing one in England and importing it to Ireland but the rip off rate of VRT being charged here put paid to that idea - the VRT on an 01 Disco averages about 5000 (£3500) .
he really couldn't believe that a total stranger would offer to help in such a way. But I feel that possibly the majority of the members on this site are all of the same mind.( it's like some sort of brotherhood). .
Thanks also must go to burtonboy, I offered your services to my mate and he was quite taken aback, he really couldn't believe that a total stranger would offer to help in such a way. But I feel that possibly the majority of the members on this site are all of the same mind.( it's like some sort of brotherhood). Never the less he thanks you very much for the offer but on this occasion would rather go his own way. Thanks again burtonboy.
The man I bought the Td5 from had it just 3 years and was clocking up 50K per year - he bought it with only about 16K on the clock . It had been parked up for quite a while.
All he had done with it during his 3 years of ownership was normal servicing and one rear airbag replaced - but as the company was paying for it it was done regularly and thoroughly . So it says a lot for the Td5 and I'm hoping to get a few more years out of it by continuing the same way .
A Land Rover is for life... not just for Christmas!!
dint TD5's have probs with an oil pump bolt failing or summat?
