Are mine the same as everyone else?
Aaron, I've put a 14mm ring spanner on, but it's just turning.
My bolt heads are multicornered like the one on the google pic

If mine are different (can't see why they would be) any ideas how to loosen them ?

yours have corroded ,you could try spanner on wrong way round so it leans toward axle or use a chisel to slacken them

I warm these bolts with a blowtorch as this tends to make them easier to undo
Doesn't need much heat just a warming

Ended up having to grind one of mine off, once the head was off the stud came out with my fingers

Will get the gas torch on them in the morning. Try that before the grinder!
I take it everyone has these multi-cornered bolts then?

try chisel before grinder you could end up **** street with 7 bolts needing drilling out

I got my corroded ones off using a pair of mole grips on very tight and a hammer, unless they are badly corroded at the other end that should work

If the ball is scrap, why not cut it off then you can drive a socket straight onto the bolt heads.
Have the say the series motors are easier, just gas them off and replace as they are nuts and bolts

My balls are gleaming!
But me bolts shot

Tried everything -heat, knocking them with a hammer and chisel, putting the ring spanner on and gently tapping them with a hammer, plenty of penetrating oil. Got three from the 14 loose

Have to go for the grinder option. Need to get 14 replacement bolts first tho!

try hitting with a large drift and lump hammer but force spanner on after a few hits before head mushrooms too much ,grinder is very last option

James, Of the few that loosened I took one right out. The thread was in good nick except the very end last few threads that stuck out the back and it must have obviously also been stuck around the washer and head. I was thinking with the head removed the washer will drop off. The washer space plus the thickness of the flange will give me a lot of steel to get the grips on. With the nut friction gone I was hoping that the friction remaining from the little bit of thread at the other end will be easily overcome.

The bolt heads have very easily rounded, are you suggesting hitting them to loosen them, but also to deform them so that the spanner will lock on again?

yes its one of the main ways i use ,you might be lucky but often bolts are tight till nearly out

I know that sounds a strange thing to say, I don't know if it's cos it feels like admitting defeat when you get the grinder out. Or perhaps, at my age with reduced hair coverage, I'm getting sick of the tiny hot sensations as the sparks fall on my head and down my back.
Don't know if I'm cool enough to get away with wearing a cap - especially back to front

I'm kicking 50 (A young 50 tho!). Trust me Aaron, unless ya lucky when ye get to my age there's not a lot of coverage. I used to have a flat cap, it was made of Whippet skin. Very popular up here where the shirtless men roam among the pit heaps
