Hi everyone, I have just bought my first (beautiful!) land rover and am intending to do it all up before setting of to Africa in June. I noticed that, only when having the engine running, there is water dripping down from somewhere in the engine area. I cant seem to find where exactely it comes from. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks Lotty

Coolant water leak... where pipes join the engine, from the water pump... find where its coming from and then let us know.

No, it hasnt got aircon, and the water is clearish...the previous owner put a V8 engine in...could that have anything to do with it?

check the level and colour of the water in the header tank. check all the hoses for perishing, holes, splits tight jubilee clips etc.
It would help if you could pinpoint whereabouts the leak is coming from!

Yeah will do, sounds like a good idea! Have got some more specifics, water seems to come from where waterpump is connected to engine....??
Does that make sense?

it seems like a good place to start. Does it squeel?
It has been known fur waterpumps to leak, but it could be just the gasket.

It's amazing how we are supposed to know prezackly what engine is fitted, what year the LR is, etc. Some sort of forum osmosis transmitted through the air waves or what?

At least we know it is a V8 so it can't be the P gasket. Chances are it's those little heater pipes behind the dizzy.

Cheers Jim
oooops sorry did'nt spot that it was a V8, so it's not going to have a "wee wee Gasket" after all:eek: Oh well! so much the better

If you put antifreeze in the system it is easier to spot leaks. But on a V8 it does sound like that small pipe from the water pump to the block behind the distributor. Silly thing.
